Description
Our services include an assessment that includes gathering of an extensive case history and an evaluation of vocal function and swallowing, if needed. An ENT referral is sometimes made before beginning any therapy, in particular, if vocal quality is significantly compromised. Assessment findings will determine if the individual is a good candidate for treatment and which treatment approach best fits their needs and profile. The treatment protocols offered include SPEAK OUT! and LSVT Loud. SPEAK OUT!, developed by the Parkinson’s Voice Project, focuses on producing a stronger, clearer voice. It is based on the concept of intent and strengthens the muscles used for speaking and swallowing. SPEAK OUT! is comprised of an assessment session and 12 treatment sessions. Clients attend 45-minute sessions, 3 times per week for 4 consecutive weeks, and complete daily home practice. Once treatment is complete, the Parkinson’s Voice Project hold LOUD crowd groups and free Facebook practice sessions. This is essential for maintaining the gains achieved in therapy. Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT) is an intensive treatment protocol that supports people with Parkinson’s disease to improve vocal loudness and clarity. It is comprised of an assessment session and 16 treatment sessions. Clients attend 1-hour sessions 4 times per week for 4 consecutive weeks and complete daily practice at home.
